Since 1988, Cadaver has been one of Norway’s most influential extreme metal bands, led by the legendary Anders Odden. With six album releases since their debut in 1990, the band has always challenged the boundaries of the genre by integrating unexpected musical elements.
Hymns of Misanthropy
In 2024, Anders Odden dug deep into Cadaver’s history and found unreleased material from the band’s early years. Before signing with Earache Records in 1992, they recorded raw and unpolished versions of the songs that later became …In Pains, including an unfinished song called “Maltreated Mind Makes Man Manic.” Odden completed this material at Studio Tomb in Råde, where Cadaver was originally started. With the old band reunited, the original vision was realized.
The result is Hymns of Misanthropy, a 1991 album that will finally be released in April 2025 through Listenable Records. The album showcases Cadaver’s unique contribution to extreme metal as well as their influence on the early Norwegian black metal scene.
Hymns of Misanthropy offers a powerful and raw piece of Cadaver’s history, confirming their ability to challenge the boundaries of extreme metal. Live, Cadaver is reinforced by renowned drummer Bjørn Rønnow (known from Borknagar and Trollfest) and Eilert Solstad on double bass, who add a unique dimension to the band’s intense
expression.
Cadaver continues to deliver uncompromising death metal – raw, challenging, and relevant!
