▲ EMPATHY TEST
Empathy Test was formed by childhood friends Isaac Howlett and Adam Relf, and in a decade has become one of the most famous and beloved bands in alternative electronic music. In 2017, with the help of the now-defunct PledgeMusic platform, Empathy Test successfully crowdfunded the self-release of not one, but two debut albums, “Losing Touch” and “Safe From Harm.” In 2020, they crowdfunded their third album, “Monsters,” which was very successful. Despite rejecting record labels, they produce high-quality physical releases.
They have toured with bands such as VNV Nation, Mesh, Aesthetic Perfection, and Covenant, and played at festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen, Mera Luna, Amphi, Plage Noire, and NCN in Germany; Liverpool Sound City, Infest, and Resistanz in the UK; and Winter Waves, Electrixmas, and Subkultfestivalen in Sweden. They have also completed successful headline tours in the US, Germany, France, and the UK. Empathy Test performs live with the help of David Leisser (drums) and Nadine Green (synthesizer).
▲ ANADYR
Anadyr is a Gothenburg-based duo consisting of Emma Bergstedt and Johan Hellqvist. Both have previously released music in other constellations, but it was during the pandemic that this duo truly discovered the key to their dark, atmospheric electronic music. You can find elements from the darker sounds of acts such as Massive Attack and Depeche Mode mixed with a retro touch from classic Anne Clarke and the like. This really makes Anadyr stand out in today’s music scene. They are forging their own path together without following any of today’s standard clichés.
The first two singles, “Two Hours Daylight” and “No Fear,” from their first album, “22 Hours Darkness,” released in 2022, have both been very well received. Although this is the band’s debut album, it has a touch of world class. On their second album, “Devouring the Self” (released in 2024), they continue to develop and explore a fantastic mix of dark emotional electronic landscapes, trip hop, electronic pop, and experimental music.
